Hello, Rudi.

I sent Matt Monkiewicz the enclosed letter today, and I thought you should have a copy. And while I am at it, I’m also sending you the last letter I wrote to you near the end of 2003 but never mailed to you. You might want to tell [redacted] what is happening with this now, after all these years.

 Sincerely,

 James Chester

Dear [redacted] and Rudi:

Most regrettably, it has finally become obvious to me that the film project is dead, despite the fact that, to this day, neither one of you has told me that the project is indeed dead, let alone the reasons for its demise. Last week, I spoke with Rudi in an attempt to save some of the very significant discoveries he made during the course of his investigation, but he was very intent on burying those discoveries with the project. I cannot let that happen, and it makes no sense that, after expending all the effort you invested in an attempt to uncover the abuse of children at the Charlestown Boys Club, you would now seek to suppress your discoveries, for no other reason than to keep your name out of the controversy. If you had wanted to stay out of it, then you should have stayed out of it. Moreover, I think it is entirely unreasonable to ask me, as you did, to say nothing of your investigation, your discoveries, or your history with me. I am fighting a conspiracy of silence, which you have repeatedly mocked — even during our last conversation, after I showed you how Google was censoring my Web site, to which you replied, “how can they do that?” Though your decision to kill the film project is a huge disappointment to me, I can live with that and move on. Your resolve to bury our history, however, is something I do not have to accept. More importantly, I can’t. I am fighting silence, not condoning it. Therefore, I am releasing our e mails to Michael Rezendes at the Boston Globe, per the Globe’s request, though you deny that Martin Baron asked you to share with him our e mails.

I understand that you will deny statements I attribute to you, as you vowed. Please be assured that I will be honest and truthful in both my reporting and my attributions.

Sincerely,

James Chester
