Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston Moves to Settle with Rape Victim

On June 11, 1999, I wrote a letter to the Boys Club’s Board of Directors and included Fr. Healy’s affidavit with it. One month later, the Club’s attorneys responded by contacting Mr. Hardoon with the following letter. However, I did not see the letter for a whole month because Mr. Hardoon never forwarded it to me.

Re: James Chester

Dear Larry:

I am writing you because your client James Chester has sent letters to a number of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston concerning his allegations that he was abused some thirty-six years ago while attending day camp at the Charlestown clubhouse. Almost a year ago, Mr. Chester indicated that he was terminating his efforts to deal with the Club regarding this issue. While we regretted his decision, we understood that it was his to make. If he wishes to continue a dialogue with the Club, we are willing to do so, but believe that the dialogue should be between counsel or between Mr. Chester and a party designated by the Club. If he wishes to continue talking to the Club, either you or Mr. Chester should contact me.

Yours sincerely,
